ICT A Level at Strode's College

Course description

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is an excellent academic subject for students who both enjoy using computers and who want to learn more about the underlying theory of ICT. In theory lessons, you learn about software, information and applications of computers in society. Good writing skills are essential. In practical lessons, your work is assessed by three or four tasks set by the exam board, covering a wide range of different packages over the year.

Course content

This is an ideal course to use a variety of software tools and techniques such as mail merging, computer animation, web paging and multimedia. Practical work emphasises advanced skills in using spreadsheets and databases.

Entry requirements

General entry requirements for Level 3 Pathway. Plus a grade C in English Language GCSE and a grade C in Maths GCSE or equivalent.

Assessment

40% coursework 60% written examination paper.

 

Financial information

Visiting speakers, including ex-students are invited to give talks on careers in IT and IT Apprenticeships.

 

Future opportunities

This course is useful for entry into IT and Business degrees. Your practical skills, using a wide variety of software to an advanced level, should be helpful in many careers.
