Government and Politics AS/A2 Level at South Downs College

Course description

Anyone with an interest in current affairs and a desire to seek explanations for events will enjoy this course.

You will need to have an open mind and be able to communicate clearly: both verbally and in written work.

Course content

AS level – You will study issues such as the role of pressure groups and parties, the differing styles of Prime Ministers and much more. You will examine and apply key concepts such as power, authority and democracy.

A2 level – Having achieved the AS level, you can go on to study the political ideologies of liberalism, conservatism, socialism, anarchism, nationalism, feminism, ecologism and multi-culturalism.

Entry requirements

A minimum of five GCSEs at grades A*-C, including English Language and usually Mathematics.

Assessment

Both the AS and the A2 level are ultimately assessed by two exams, each about 1 1/2 hours long

Future opportunities

A good A level pass in a range of subjects will assist you to progress to higher education or appropriate employment.
