Course description

As the name suggests, this course will teach you similar skills to those acquired by studying English Language and English Literature as separate ‘A’ Level subjects.

If you enjoyed English at GCSE and want to study the subject further, this course will suit you.

English Language & Literature would complement any combination of subjects. It involves the study of a broad range of texts and close linguistic analysis.

Course content

The course involves the study of a play, poems and novels plus non-literary texts such as reviews and forums. There is plenty of variety and you will learn grammatical terms and how to apply them.

Students will complete coursework in their second year and are allowed to choose themes and texts for their own investigation.

Entry requirements

Standard 'A' Level entry requirements apply.

80% Exam, 20% Coursework.

Future opportunities

On successful completion, you may progress on to Higher Education courses in Teacher Training, Creative Writing, Law, Public Relations, Marketing, Cultural Studies, Gender Studies and Journalism.
