Classical Greek A-Level at Reading School

Course description

The study of Classical Greek helps to develop logical thinking, as well as enhancing analytical and evaluative abilities. As such, many students that opt for Classical Greek do so to complement the Maths/Further Maths and Physics subjects that require many of the same skills. At the same time the study of literature augments other subjects, most particularly English Literature and History. The A-level course allows students to consolidate and broaden their knowledge and skills, which have been introduced at GCSE. Though many students will also be studying Latin at A-level, it is not necessary to do so. Classical Greek is an extremely well regarded A-level subject, however the most important reason for taking Classical Greek is that the student really enjoys the course!

On account of its versatility the study of Classical Greek can lead directly to a whole plethora of careers, including the civil service, law, computer programing, journalism or accountancy; and indirectly to becoming a mathematician, scientist, medic or engineer.

Entry requirements

All prospective students should obtain at least a grade B at GCSE Greek.
