Motor Vehicle - City and Guilds in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Entry Level 3 at Kirklees College: Dewsbury Centre

Course description

The course is mainly practical and consists of 12 units, covering:

  • health and safety,
  • engineering equipment and materials,
  • lubrication systems,
  • cooling systems,
  • fuel and exhaust,
  • ignition systems,
  • electrical systems,
  • braking systems,
  • transmission systems,
  • steering and suspensions,
  • wheels and tyres, and
  • vehicle power units.

Course content

The course involves practical work and theory.

You will also complete job cards on work carried out to add to the evidence recorded in your portfolio.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 4 GCSEs with the following grades: English 2 and maths at 1 or above, and 2 other GCSEs grade 2 or above including Science or a technology AND a multi- choice Motor Vehicle mechanical aptitude test.

Assessment

You will be assessed with practical tasks, an internal knowledge test and a portfolio of evidence.

Future opportunities

City and Guilds Diploma in Motor Vehicle Body and Paint/Refinishing Operations level 1 or City and Guilds Diploma in the Service and Repair of Road Vehicles level 1.

Employment within the motor vehicle industry.
