Assessment

There are two components to our AS studies The first is an exciting but challenging design and making activity called the Innovative Design Challenge. Our students are taught how to respond with creativity and innovation to a structured six hour design session with three hours designing and three modelling.

The other component is a Product Case Study. This takes the form of an extended design and make project looking at a chosen product and challenges the student to investigate how it may be improved.

Our Year 13, A2, students engage on another extended project to design and make an new product that addresses a problem that the student encounters and has some understanding of. The course finishes with a synoptic examination.

Future opportunities

Product Design is a valuable qualification and many of our past pupils have been successful in gaining places at university studying Architecture, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Product Design, Interior Design, Industrial Design, Pharmacy, Sports Science, and Radiography to name but a few.
