Carpentry and Joinery Diploma Level 1 at Lancaster and Morecambe College

Course description

This course is for students who wish to develop basic carpentry and joinery skills with a view to progression within construction. 

Course content

You will study the following:

• Safe Working • Info, Quantities and Communication • Construction Technology • Woodworking Joints • Maintain and Use Hand Tools • Prepare and Use Power Tools All LMC students will receive tutorial support. All students aged 16 -19 are required to study Functional English and Maths qualifications or GCSE mathematics and English if not already awarded a grade A*-C in these subjects. If you have a grade D at GCSE you will study maths and/or English GCSE. Students with a grade lower than D will work towards GCSE through the study of Maths & English Functional Skills. Students aged 19+ are strongly encouraged to take relevant maths and English qualifications to support progression in

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade D-G preferably including English or maths. Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.


This course is continuously assessed using a range of methods including assignments, practical performance, examination and course work. 

Financial information

Students will be expected to pay £50.00 prior to the start of the course. This includes personal protective equipment and stationery which will be required for the course.

Future opportunities

The course can lead on to Diploma Level 2 Carpentry and Joinery or Carpentry and Joinery Apprenticeship.

Further information

On completion of this course you will receive CSkills Level 1 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery. 

Most of the classwork will be completed in class.
