Geography at Highcliffe School

Course description

At AS Level, students will examine the core topics of physical and human geography with an emphasis on the application of geographical skills. For the physical geography element, knowledge and understanding of key environments is developed through the core unit of "Rivers, Floods and Management", followed by a study of a contrasting physical environment.

A Level Geography is an issues approach to contemporary geographical theme, where areas covered at AS are extended and developed in different settings. Students will study Plate Tectonics and Ecosystems as their physical topics, with an emphasis on the challenges for human populations.

Course content

AS Level: Physical and Human Geography, Geographical Skills.
A Level: Contemporary Geographical Issues, Geographical Issue Evaluation.


Written examinations and an essay.
