Sports Development Centres at Lancaster and Morecambe College

Course description

There are Sports Development Centres for Men’s & Women’s Football, Women’s Hockey & Netball, Men’s Rugby Union and Distance Running and Cross Country. This is a one or two year course that offers an opportunity for students to gain a recognised educational or vocational qualification whilst working towards developing their sporting skills. The Programme offers quality coaching and an extensive opportunity to play in one of the College's successful sports teams. It also provides the opportunity for students to gain regional and international selection for their chosen sports governing bodies. 

Course content

The course gives students the opportunity to participate in a specialist training programme to develop their technical skills and playing performance. The programme develops the student’s abilities through coaching, playing and analysis to improve and enhance their performance. Students will have the opportunity to develop their employability skills and coaching experience working with the local community and sports partnerships. Students may enhance their CVs by gaining additional awarding body qualifications such as the F.A. Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football. 

There will be an opportunity to experience a range of regional, national and European visits to support students' vocational and educational development.

Entry requirements

You should be between 16-19 year olds who have a good level of sporting ability and also value the importance of academic and vocational study.

This will depend on the educational or vocational qualification you take alongside this course. You will be provided with advice and guidance on assessment methods linked to your course on enquiry.
