Course description

Business: To succeed in management you need organisational skills, a cool head under pressure, communication skills, problem-solving ability and leadership skills. You may work in a variety of businesses across the public and private sectors, or for charities, managing functions ranging from Sales and Marketing to Production and Quality Control. Your role will revolve around managing either people and/or budgets and you’ll usually work standard office hours, Monday to Friday, sometimes longer in order to meet deadlines. Some people move into management on the strength of their experience alone however a business-related degree will enable you to fast-track to a suitable role. Project Management: Project managers plan and manage all kinds of business projects, making sure they are completed on time, meet the needs of the client and stay within budget. If you are highly organised, good at juggling several tasks at once, have excellent "people" skills and can lead a team, this is the career for you. Project management is a function of almost every industry and you could be employed on many different types of project. You would usually be office-based, but some travel could be involved visiting contractors and suppliers. A specialist degree is the usual route through to this career and with experience you could progress into senior management or become a consultant.
