Health & Social Care - Btec Extended Certificate at Alexandra Park School
Btecs offer practical experience that is often lacking in more traditional routes such as GCE AS/A2 Levels.
This course offers students an introduction to the health and social care sector through vocational study. The two year course is designed to support students’ application to higher education when combined with other Level 3 qualifications.
The Pearson Level 3 BTEC Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care consists of three mandatory units plus one optional unit completed over 2 years. Two of the units are assessed through coursework which is internally assessed and externally moderated. Two further units are externally assessed. This course takes place in one option block and is broadly equivalent to one A level.
Students who have studied 21st century Science should have a minimum of grade C in both GCSE Core Science and GCSE Additional Science (or equivalent if students have studied other suites of GCSE courses). Students who study BTEC Level 2 Science will need to have achieved a Merit. A minimum of C grade in Maths GCSE and a C grade in English GCSE are alsoexpected.
Unit 1 - Written Exam 1hr 30 min - Weighting 50%
Unit 6 - Internally assessed - Weighting 50%
Unit 2 - Practical - Weighting 33.3%
Unit 15 - Choice of subjects - Weighting 16.7%
AS's Weighting also carries 50% towards A2
Students will receive transferable knowledge and skills, relevant to a range of jobs within the Health and Social Care sector. This qualification prepares students for a range of higher education courses and employment opportunities. They provide progression either by meeting entry requirements in their own right or by being accepted alongside other qualifications at the same level and adding value to them.
