Introduction to Construction Level 1 at Burnley College

Course description

The course develops the personal skills and qualities needed to work in the Construction industry. This includes practical experience in craft areas of carpentry and joinery and painting and decorating in addition to developing interview techniques and preparing for employment. You will work in spacious workshops with an extensive range of tools and equipment. Our well-established links with employers ensure that our students are kept up to date with the latest developments in industry.

Course content

This course will provide you with an excellent grounding in Construction. You will train for nationally recognised qualifications and a career in construction. You will have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of activities to enhance your studies, such as:

  • Employer-sponsored 'Job of the Term' awards
  • Construction site visits
  • Entry into national trade skills competitions, such as National SkillBuild
  • Excursions to national trade exhibitions
  • Voluntary building work
  • Visits to buildings of architectural significance

Entry requirements

There are no formal qualifications. All applicants will be interviewed and assessed to ensure that this is the appropriate course for them.

Assessment

Assessment is via classroom assessment and workshops. There are no formal exams.

Future opportunities

You could progress to the Level 1 Diploma in a specific Construction Craft or the Level 1 Diploma in Construction.
