Physics A Level at Liskeard School and Community College

Course description

If you want to know how everything from the universe to atoms work, be able to calculate your own wavelength and understand why this page is a figment of your imagination; plus, you are prepared to work hard and you enjoy practical work, then try the OCR Advanced GCE in Physics A course.

Entry requirements

Pupils following the A level course are expected to gain grades A*,A or B in both Science and Maths GCSE.

Those intending to study physics at A2 level should ideally choose to study A level Maths.

Further Maths is recommended for pupils who intend to pursue Physics or Engineering at Degree level.


The written exams for the two examined modules ‘Mechanics’ and ‘Electrons, Waves & Photons’ will take place in the Summer. Practical centre-assessed coursework will be completed by Easter for submission in the Summer.

Future opportunities

It is an excellent course for those wanting to go on to study physics, engineering and many other related subjects. It is also a very useful and highly valued qualification for a wide range of possible career choices from the financial sector to the medical industry and the military.
