Early Years (Childcare) Apprenticeship Intermediate Level 2 at Southampton City College

Course description

This apprenticeship is suitable for you if you want to start a career or develop your existing skills in working with children and young people.

Suitable job roles

For those who work under supervision such as

  • Nursery Assistant
  • Early Years or Playgroup Assistant working with children under five
  • Assistant Play Worker in an out of school setting

Course content

Early Years apprenticeships are for people who work with children aged from birth to 16 years (and their families) in settings or services whose main purpose is children’s care, learning and development, e.g. child minder’s own home, crèches, community based services, day care, extended schools, hospitals, playgroups, pre-schools, primary care, schools and Sure Start programmes.

Entry requirements

No previous qualifications are required and a full assessment will take place to ensure you have the skills to complete the qualification. Those wishing to progress onto an advanced apprenticeship will require GCSE’s A*-C in English and maths (or equivalent) or demonstrate, through the assessment process, that you are able to achieve this.

All applicants will undergo a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check.

Assessment

An apprentice can expect to be doing work based learning with an employer and to be paid a wage. The apprenticeship will include a CACHE certificate/diploma combined qualification, functional skills/GCSE, and an Employment qualification
