Music AS & A Level at Coloma Convent Girls' School

Students will study music from three different areas, one of which must be music of the Western Classical tradition.

The performance will be recorded and can be a solo or an ensemble or both.

In composition the candidate must submit two compositions as coursework, one of which is in a style of the candidate’s choosing, the other according to a brief set by the board.

Entry requirements

The chosen pathway requirements and at least Grade B in GCSE Music

The ability to reach Grade 5 standard on an instrument or voice by the end of Year 12 and Grade 6 by the end of Year 13.

Candidates should have Grade V Theory before embarking on the course. If they do not have Grade V Theory, they must attend Grade V Theory classes and aim to sit the examination as soon as possible.

Assessment

  • The Appraising component is 40% of the mark
  • The Performing component is 35% of the total mark
  • The Composition component is worth 25% of the total mark
