English Literature A2 at South Wirral High School

Course description

If you enjoyed exploring how John Steinbeck depicted the struggles of society's outcasts in 'Of Mice and Men', if you relished examining the ways Wilfred Owen presented the horrors of war, or simply have a passion for the power and wonder of literature, this is the course for you!

Course content

A2 Level
At A2, students will be given a unique opportunity to become creative, independent readers of literature covering all genres. The overriding theme for the exam is the expression of love, in all its various forms, through the ages, from Shakespeare to the present day.

Entry requirements

GCSE Grade C or above in English and English Literature.

Assessment

A2 Level - Love through the ages (not just romantic love)
Unit 3 - Examination 2
2 1/2 hours // 30% of A Level
Two questions on unseen extracts and wide reading.

Unit 4 - Coursework
20% of A Level
One extended essay on the presentation of love or another issue of your choice, in a Shakespeare play, poetry and novel (3000 words).
