Construction BTEC Level 3 at Ysgol Y Strade
The Level 3 course is aimed at pupils who like solving problems and teamwork and students will need to gain 4 GCSEs (A*-C) in order to do the course. Level 3 students will attend a site in Furnace for one day a week.
Students will study 6 units for the Level 3 course andcontinuous assessment taskswill be set throughout both courses. At the end of the Level 3 course Pass, Merit and Distinction grades are awarded. A distinction will gain 120 UCAS points.
Unit 1: Health, Safety and Welfare in the workplace
Unit 2: Construction and the environment
Unit 3: Science and materials in construction
Unit 4: Construction, Technology and Design in
construction and civil engineering
Any 2 of the following units:
- Planning, Organising and control ofresources
- Graphical detailing
- Measuring, Estimating and tendering processes
- Surveying and civil engineering.
Although each student will be considered on an individual basis for entry onto the course it would be beneficial to have 5 GCSE grades (A*-C).

This course prepares students to work ‘professionally’ within the construction industry or for further study in the field. Due to the shortage of professional workers within the UK construction industry, this course will provide ample opportunities for a
career pathway. This qualification is equivalent to one A Level and is completed within two years. This course could lead to jobs as a Site Manager, Project Manager, Building
Surveyor, Architects Technician, Civil Engineer, Sound, Light or Heat Loss Surveyor.
