Mathematics AS A Level at Saint Mary's College, Blackburn

Course description

The department offers a modular course which enables the students to develop their skills in Pure Mathematics, now called Core Mathematics, and also to see how mathematics can be applied to solving everyday problems through the Statistics and Decision modules. In the AS course students cover two Core modules and a Statistics module. The Core Mathematics includes Coordinate Geometry, Polynomials, Sequences and Series, Differentiation, Integration, Trigonometry, Logarithms and Exponentials. In the Statistics course students study Data Presentation and Analysis, Probability, Discrete Random Variables, the Binomial Distribution and Hypothesis testing. At A Level a further two Core Mathematics modules and a module on Decision Mathematics are studied.
