Animal Nursing Assistants ABC at Solihull College & University Centre

Course description

This course is an introduction into animal/veterinary nursing and will prepare you for a career in animal care or vet nursing within a veterinary practice

Course content

- Deliver basic treatments to animals
- Companion animal parasitology and zoonosis
- Provide feed and water to animals
- Principles of infection control for animal nursing assistants
- Companion animal anatomy and physiology
- Principles of basic animal nursing assistance

Entry requirements

- Two GCSE passes at Grade D/3 or above, one of these must be in Science, and the other in either English Language or Maths
- To support your application you will need a suitable character or tutor reference and a copy of your latest school report (if applicable)
- A successful interview.

Assessment

Assessment is continual over the year mainly by the completion of assignments, practical work and one extended examination, students are also assessed practically on the Animal Care Centre.

Future opportunities

This course can lead to an animal nursing career within the industry or allow progression onto the RCVS Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing

You will need to provide a pair of steel toe cap boots and purchase a college boiler suit. The prices of these will be available upon application.

Good levels of English and Maths are important for your success in your course, your chosen vocation and life. Throughout your course you will continue to develop your English and Maths skills in your vocational classes.

If you haven't achieved an A*/9 - C/4 grade in English or Maths at GCSE, or a Level 2 Functional Skill, you will also be working towards a qualification in English or Maths at a level that will enable you to progress towards these grades.

      Solihull's main bus and train station is a 10 minute walk from the campus with the number 6, 30, 49, 69, 76, 166, 173.174, 175, 519 bus routes stopping outside the College campus.
