ICT A Level at St Nicholas Catholic High School

Course description

Practical Problem Solving in the Digital World. Development of ICT systems through practical experience in using a range of applications software in a structured way. Study of each stage of a system’s life cycle, with some of this documentation taken into the examination.
Living in the Digital World. Examination of issues arising from the use of ICT for individuals, society and organisations, and consideration of environmental and ethical issues. Students gain a wider picture of the use of ICT to enable the understanding of basic terms and concepts involved in the study of ICT.
ICT in the Digital World. Exploration of how ICT changes, including developments in technology and ICT system capabilities, and how the world which uses ICT is affected by these changes. Students study a range of organisations, from small businesses to multi-national companies.
Practical Issues Involved in the use of ICT in the Digital World. Students complete a substantial project involving the production of an ICT-related system over an extended period of time. This may include a software solution (e.g. a multimedia or e-commerce system), a training system (e.g. a course for someone working from home), a user-support system (e.g. a fault-logging system), or a backup and recovery system.

Entry requirements

GCSE ICT grade B or above.
