Media Studies A Level at North Bromsgrove High School

Course description

Media Studies focuses on the communication of information across different mediums. It combines practical and analytical elements whilst exploring the likes of television, computer games, music video, marketing, social media, web design and newspapers. The course helps students appreciate a range of texts that we utilise on a daily basis and perhaps take for granted.

Course content


An individual cross-media production based on two forms in response to a choice of briefs set by the exam board, applying knowledge and understanding of the theoretical framework and digital convergence.


One two hour exam and one three hour exam. Question are essay based, with students required to respond to and explore media representations, media language, industries and audiences. There is a focus on media in the digital and global age, considering how and why a range of contemporary texts are created and consumed.

Entry requirements

- Grade 4 or above in English.
- Grade C or above in media, if studied at GCSE level.

70% Examination
