Physics at Park Hall Academy

Course description

Physics is a very challenging A level subject.  In order to succeed teachers will assist the students to develop their mathematical and practical skills through both theoretical and practical lessons.

 

Students are encouraged to take responsibility  for their own learning and will supported in devoping the skills of self evaluation, target setting and tenacity.

Course content

In year 1 you will cover 3 units:

Unit 1 - Particles, Quantum Phenomena and Electricity

Unit 2 - Mechanics, Materials and Waves

Unit 3 - Investigative and Practical Skills in Physics

In year 2 you will cover units:

Unit 4 - Fields and Further Mechanics

Unit 5 - Optional unit in either Astrophysics, Medical Physics, Applied Physics or Turning Points in Physics plus compulsory unit in Nuclear and Thermal Physics.

Unit 6 - Investigative and Practical skills in Physics

Entry requirements

5 grade A-C in GCSE examined subjects plus the addition of Grade B or above in GCSE Science and Mathematics

Assessment

The A Level Physics course will provide students with analytical, mathematical and investigative skills and will put Physics into a real-world context for students
