Electrical Installation - EAL Level 1 Diploma at East Durham College

Course description

This qualification allows the learner to acquire basic knowledge and craft skills of electrical installation. It does not require occupational evidence from the workplace, so it is suitable for learners who currently do not work within the electrical Industry, and may wish to prepare for study at Level 2.
The qualification facilitates progression to further engineering and building services qualifications. It gives the learner an opportunity to practice and be assessed in a secure environment on the basic electrical systems. The qualification does not make the individual an electrician, but allows progression to further study.

Course content

Topics: 
The qualification has mandatory and optional units. The mandatory units cover health and safety, environmental protection, installation methods, practical craft skills and electrical science. Optional units cover starting work in construction, preparing for an interview, managing study and developing learning skills and the opportunity to achieve higher grades in maths and English.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification although Centres should ensure that the learners have the potential to achieve the units selected within this qualification.

Assessment

The qualification can be delivered completely at the Centre, with a mix of workshop and theory sessions with practical and theory assessments.

Financial information

If you have been a UK resident for the past 3 years and are under the age of 19 on the 31st August, you will not usually need to pay any course fees.

Future opportunities

Learners who wish to undertake a Level 1 qualification in preparation for study at Level 2 which will allow them to become electrical improvers or with employment fully qualified electricians at level 3.

The Academy was established by East Durham College with the aim of re-creating a professional, construction and engineering-based working environment where learners could receive the latest training in trade areas that the industry needs. The Academy is located in about 37,000 sq ft. of space with a vast workshop area, classroom and IT suite and specialise in trades such as welding, engineering, wall & floor tiling, electric and gas installation.
