Performing Arts (Acting) Subsidiary Diploma BTEC Level 3 (Edexcel) at The Robert Napier School

Course description

Two of the six units studied are compulsory, others have been chosen to provide a wide dramatic education and experience. Areas of study include theatre practitioners, theatre from different historical periods and genres, script, devising, improvisation, monologues, physical theatre and masks.

Course content

Across the two years students will study six different units, all currently internally assessed, comprised of both written and practical work. With each grading criteria to be addressed students will have a practise (formative assessment) before a final (summative) assessment.

Students are assessed on at least three different criteria within each unit, with the lowest summative grading awarded creating the final unit grade. Each grade awarded for each unit is then converted into points, which then equates to a grade, allowing students to potentially achieve a Distinction*, which is not awarded on a unit by unit basis.

Entry requirements

Students MUST have studied GCSE Drama or BTEC Level 2 Acting at KS4, gaining at least a C at GCSE and a Merit at BTEC.

Assessment

Future opportunities

Students may go one to a range of careers within the arts, such as teaching; acting; workshop facilitators; theatre practitioners; theatre administration etc. However, the greatest number of students use the transferrable skills provided and recognised within acting to access further education and job opportunities.
