Applied Science Level 2 Diploma at Preston's College

Course description

This course is designed specifically for those with an inquisitive mind and a real passion for science. Studying in our purpose built laboratories, you will learn about core scientific principles in chemistry, biology and physics.

Course content

The course is made up of a range of separate units. In chemistry you’ll learn about the different types of substances and elements on the earth, the application of chemical substances and analysing chemicals. In biology you’ll learn about organisms and their environments, how human behaviour affects other animals, health applications and the human body. In physics you’ll learn about energy, electricity and the solar system including investigating motion, light and sound waves and electricity. You will also learn to use maths skills to analyse and present the data that you collect.

Entry requirements

Four GCSE’s at grade D or above including English, science and maths.

Future opportunities

You can progress to Preston’s College’s Level 3 course in applied science. Or you may seek employment as a Level 3 Apprentice in laboratory activities or as a pharmacy technician.
