Course description

BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care will give students the opportunity to become occupationally ready to take up employment in the health and social care sector at the appropriate level. This can follow either directly after achieving the qualification, or via the stepping-stone of Higher Education (HE) in University or college

Course content

BTEC Health and Social Care Double Award (Diploma)

*Single Award (Extended Certificate)

Unit 1: Human lifespan Development *

Unit 4: Enquiries into Current Research in Health and Social Care

Unit 5: Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs*

Unit 7: Principles of Safe Practice in Health and Social Care

Year 2

Unit 2: Working in Health and Social Care*

Unit 8: Promoting Public Health

2 Optional Units: based on class interest, including 100 hours of work experience unit (* + 1 optional unit)

Entry requirements

  • 5+ GCSEs A*-C (9-4)
  • Grade 4 in English Language or Literature, Mathematics and a Science-related subject

Assessment

Single (Extended Certificate):

Two of the Units are coursework (Unit 5 and the Optional unit) with two being exam based (Units 1 and 2).

Double (Diploma):

Five of the Units are coursework (Units 5, 7, 8 and the optional units) with two being exam based (Units 1 and 2).  Unit 4 is an exam board set activity completed under timed conditions.
