Automative Skills Level 1 Diploma at Isle of Wight College

Course description

Applicants with a track record of good school attendance who have successfully completed their GCSEs to at least the level previously described will be considered for the award at Level One in the first instance.

The motor industry is a large employer offering a wide range of job opportunities both locally and nationally.

If you are considering joining any aspect of the industry but have been unable to gain direct employment or feel that you wish to gain some prior knowledge before pursuing your career these Vocationally Related Qualifications will be recognised by employers as proof of your knowledge and ability to do the job.

Course content

The course is based on sound technical craft studies covering all aspects of the basic motor vehicle supported by relevant theoretical studies.

Throughout the course time will be spent undertaking a combination of practical and theoretical learning experiences, plus at least two key skill at the appropriate level.

On successful completion separate certificates/units of credit will be awarded.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 4 GCSEs at D or above to include English, Maths and Science or above plus a commitment to work in transport related industries. Applicants must be aged 16 years or over. All applicants will be required to attend an interview and possibly undertake aptitude tests.


A mix of continuous assessment, internal practical tests and external examinations are used to achieve this nationally recognised qualification from an internationally respected awarding body.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of this course students can progress on to our Level Two Motor Vehicle course (see separate guidance sheet) or use it as a means of gaining employment within the transport repair industries and associated areas.
