Work Related Learning at Archbishop Holgate's School
This course is offered from Level 2 to Level 3. These courses are for students who want to divide their time between study and a work placement. Your tutor will advise you if this course is suitable for you.
The Level 2 course offers a personalised learning programme to suit the needs of specific students. At Level 3 students complete ASDAN CoPE - the equivalent to at least 1 A-Level.
The Work Related Learning Programme at Sixth Form is a personalised programme tailored to meet the individual learning, social and emotional needs of the students taking the course. The programme will be tailored to the needs of individual students at pre-course interviews. Students will also gain work experience and community volunteering experience and offers the possibility of visits and some residential experiences.
Students will usually attend school for 3 days per week and a placement for 2 days per week. Placements are arranged on an individual basis to meet the interests and needs of each individual student and to ensure success. The duration of the course is flexible, and lasts for between 1 to 3 years depending on the progression routes of individual students. Qualifications are offered at Level 2 and Level 3 with some minor units at Level 1 or Entry Level.
The course is assessed by a range of individual units, most of which are small coursework style assessments. Some examples are:
ASDAN Certificate of Personal Effectiveness
ASDAN Wider Key Skills
Certificates in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT
ASDAN CoPE and Wider Keys Skills at Level 2 or 3, ALAN Level 1 or 2. (Awarding Bodies: ASDAN and Edexcel/Type: VRQ/Sector: Personal Development, Literacy and Numeracy)
Application is by interview.
Students will have some work to complete in their own time to contribute to the qualifications. This work forms part of a portfolio of evidence for their qualifications.
Over the duration of this course students may be required to attend visits to further their learning. If there are any cost implications student will be notified in advance and financial support may be offered to students who would have difficulty funding such visits.
Students leaving the Work Related Learning course usually progress onto Level 3 courses at Sixth Form or progress into full time employment. Each student is guided and supported individually to ensure that the progression pathway for each is the right one for the individual student.
Students participate in regular educational visits as part of their course.
