Psychology AS at Ysgol Y Strade

Course description

The study of questions such as:

Would you be prepared to injure another person under the instructions of a scientist?

Why does your dog or cat run towards you when a tin is opened?

Can the study of dreams help solve mental health problems?

Can a chimpanzee communicate by using sign language?

You will study how psychologists use scientific theories to find answers for scientific problems by:

  • studying important past investigations
  • studying statutory techniques
  • studying research methodology in Psychology

PY1: Approaches in Psychology

PY2: Core studies and applied research methods


Entry requirements

Although each student will be considered on an individual basis for entry onto the course it would be beneficial to have Science GCSE, grade B or above.

PY2: Written examination 1h45m

Future opportunities

AS psychology provides a useful training for a range of careers. These include market research, social work, teaching, medicine and nursing, advertising, sales, media, personnel management, law and the police. A degree in psychology can lead to careers in clinical, educational, occupational, health or forensic psychology and counselling.
