Course description

Why should I study Music?

Music is a practical subject and is offered as such. By studying music students are able to improve their performance ability; they will also be able to further their skills in areas such as composition, music technology and music business. In addition to developing musical ability. students will also gain experience in skills such as research, planning, organisation and project development.

Course content

The BTEC Level 3 in Music (Performing) is a vocational qualification aimed at practical musicians. The course is built around performances both solo and ensemble.

Throughout the two years, students will undertake study in the areas of performance and composition. Students will use recordings of performances and compositions to create a portfolio of coursework. Students will be assessed using this portfolio and practical assessment. Students will also have the opportunity to study a specific area of their interest within any area of music and share their musical preferences with other musicians.

Future opportunities

The BTEC Level 3 in Music (Performing) is equivalent to one A Level. Students are able to use the variety of the qualification and the skills gained to enrol onto Popular Music Degrees offered at a variety of universities. Students are also able to use the qualification to enter directly into employment.
