Advanced Apprenticeship in Trowel Occupations at Rotherham College

Course description

Build your career in construction and learn a skilled trade with our hands-on practical learning that will prepare you for the construction industry.

Rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, our Construction department hosts first-class facilities, providing you with the perfect foundations to construct a successful career. Whether it’s brickwork, carpentry and joinery, painting and decorating, plastering or plumbing, our industry experienced tutors will support you in moving up the career ladder, no matter what level you start at.

The College has strong links with employers such as Willmott Dixon, and our tools are state of the art, thanks to generous donations from Stanley Black and Decker. Previous students have taken part in the HOPE Strategy project; where Rotherham College teamed up with Rotherham Borough Council and charity Action Housing to help renovate derelict houses into fully functioning, modern homes for vulnerable people. There are fantastic opportunities to showcase your skills at competitions such as SkillBuild, as well as the possibility for your work to be entered for the City and Guilds Gold Awards.

Course content

This Apprenticeship builds on your Level 2 skills to qualify you as a bricklayer. Whether you have completed your Level 2 and are looking to progress, or you already work within the industry and are looking to up-skill, then this is an excellent route to go down. Teaming earning a wage with learning, this Apprenticeship is a great start in your career as a block paver or bricklayer.

What will I study?

•Learn how to organise and manage areas such as health and safety and cavity walling

•Learn how to set out structures on different types of ground

•Learn how to erect complex masonry structures such as arches, curves and chimneys

What added value will I receive?

•You will receive support from tutors with expert knowledge of the industry

•Study within the Construction department, which is graded one ‘Outstanding’ for its teaching and learning by Ofsted

•The workshop facilities are to a high standard ensuring your needs are met while developing employability skills

Entry requirements

•You must have completed a Level 2 course or an Intermediate Apprenticeship

•We can help you find the employment you need to start this Apprenticeship

Assessment

•Ongoing assessment of practical and written work

•Portfolio of evidence to show your competency
