Health and Social Care (Double Award) A2 Level at Weatherhead High School

Course description

Do you enjoy a challenge? Are you a good communicator? Do you care about other people and how our society develops?

Health and Social Care can give you these opportunities. You will be expected to be part of the team, in Year 12, which organises and runs our local community mums and toddler group 'Weathertots'. You will also need to visit and work with the elderly and children with specific needs to develop interpersonal and communication skills. Placement is also required to support your coursework units.

Course content

The course covers a wide range of health, social care and early years' issues which allow you to follow pathways of interest to your future career.

Entry requirements

You will need a minimum of 5 GCSEs at C or above, including English.

Health and Social Care is specially designed to be studied alongside Biology, Psychology, and Sociology.

Assessment

ALL assessments are equally weighted
You will complete external examinations in the following units: UNIT 7 Meeting individual needs UNIT 12 Understanding Human Behaviour Examinations are 1hr 30 minutes

Internal assignments are completed for the following units: UNIT 8 Promoting health and well-being UNIT 9 Investigating disease UNIT 10 Using and understanding research UNIT 11 Social issues and welfare needs

Future opportunities

Progression routes into further training and higher education are far reaching: Nursing, social work, youth and community workers, health promotion, nursery managers are some of the potential careers open to you.
