Level 2 Diploma in Engineering Technology - Fabrication and Welding at Leeds City College

Course description

This is a full time course and has been designed for you to gain skills in fabrication and welding. This will give you the knowledge and skills to progress onto a Level 3 programme or into the workplace/employment. You will be looking at structural steelwork, steel fabrication and sheet metal work.

You will be learning how to read drawings from which you will produce components that will require shaping or bending. Following this you will assemble test pieces ready for welding.

If you have not achieved GCSE grade C in maths and English then you will have to study these as part of your course.

Course content

Mandatory Units:

  • Health and Safety
  • Environmental Awareness
  • Engineering Principles

Three optional Units:

  • Fabrication
  • Welding
  • Thermal Cutting

Entry requirements

Entry requirements for this course are a minimum of five GCSEs grade D. One of the GCSEs must also be a grade C in maths. Alternatively you could have successfully completed the Level 1 Diploma in Engineering Technology.

A satisfactory college admissions interview is also needed.

Assessment

Mandatory units will be assessed through online multiple choice examination. Mandatory unit three will be internally assessed. Optional units will be assessed through successful completion of a number of practical and written tasks.

Future opportunities

After successful completion of this course you will be able to progress Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Technology - Fabrication and Welding.

Alternatively you could seek an apprenticeship.
