Production Arts (Make-up, Special Effects & Costume for Film, TV & Theatre) BTEC 90 Credit / Extended Diploma - Level 3 at Dudley College

Course description

The course provides you with the skills and knowledge needed to work within the special effects design areas of film, television and theatre. You will work on a variety of projects and productions which will develop skills such as body casting, creature fabrication, special effects make-up and prosthetics, make-up for performance, theatre design, sculpture, mask making, drawing, mould making, character design, airbrushing and body painting.

 

Course content

The course provides you with the skills and knowledge needed to work within the special effects design areas of film, television and theatre. You will work on a variety of projects and productions which will develop skills such as body casting, creature fabrication, special effects make-up and prosthetics, make-up for performance, theatre design, sculpture, mask making, drawing, mould making, character design, airbrushing and body painting.

The programme will consist of theory and practical subject areas:

Core units:
• Production workshop
• Performing arts business
• Performing arts in context
• Production planning
• Major production (double units).

Optional units:
• Make-up design and application
• Digital photography
• Costume making
• Designing costume for performance
• Fantasy hairdressing
• Special effects make-up
• Make-up using prosthetics
• Technical theatre operations
• Drawing development
• Materials, techniques and processes
• Prop making.

Entry requirements

You must attend an interview and should have 4 GCSEs at grade C or above.

Assessment

You will be assessed on your coursework, both practical and project-based.

Financial information

There is no need to worry about the costs of coming to college as there is lots of financial help available. Our finance and welfare officers will be able to talk to you about any help that may be available to you based on your individual circumstances.

Students aged 16-18 attending a full-time further education course can apply to the 16-18 Bursary Fund for help with college related costs. Free BUS PASS

 

We will provide a free bus pass to help with travel costs for 16-18* year olds on full-time programmes, based on individual circumstances**. To qualify for a free bus pass***, you must live more than one mile from the campus at which you will be studying and not already be in receipt of other financial support, such as Care to Learn funding.

 

*Under 19 as at 31 August 2017.

 

**Students with learning difficulties or disabilities who are unable to access public transport may still be able to receive help – talk to our Student Finance team.
