Course description

The IB diploma in Computer Science course requires an understanding of the fundamental concepts of computational thinking as well as knowledge of how computers and other digital devices operate.  Students study how computer science interacts with and influence cultures, society and how individuals and societies behave, and the ethical issues involved.  During the course the student will develop computational solutions.

Course content

Year 1

  • System Fundamentals
  • Interpreting and constructing code in Java in the OOP option.

Year 2

  • Computational thinking, problem solving and programming
  • Written report on the development of a computational solution
  • Group Project

Entry requirements

  • 5+ GCSEs A*-C (9-4)
  • Grade 6 in English Language, Mathematics and a Science related subject

Assessment

The course entails three written examinations, one written report and a group project.

Future opportunities

This course will prepare you for an Undergraduate degree course at University.
