Hospitality: Supervision and Leadership Advanced Apprenticeship at Croydon College

Course description

This hands-on Apprenticeship will equip you with the skills to supervise and lead a team in the workplace.

This course is ideal for people who supervise others, such as team leaders, who have some control over staff rotas and resource control. Supervisers can work in any hospitality area, including kitchens, front of house, housekeeping or reception.

The topics covered in the course include:

  • SMART target setting
  • Staff development
  • Control of resources
  • Health and safety
  • Developing customer service.
  • Developing teams and skills
  • Maintaining a hygienic and secure working environment
  • Supervising functions

Apprentices can choose the specialist units relevant to their own area.

The learning experience will be individual and fun, with in-house on the job training and options of workshops either in College or with your trainer. You will also be able to make use of facilities both at your workplace and in the College, including our excellent library and learning resource centre.

Good English and maths skills are essential for success in studying and for future employment prospects and so Croydon College ensures that these skills are developed in all learning opportunities.

It’s also important to have good English and maths qualifications and so all students will study English and maths and work towards an appropriate level and type of qualification including GCSE.

Course content

This Advanced Apprenticeship in Hospitality Supervision and Leadership will give you the chance to learn new skills and gain a top level qualification, while continuing to earn a living.

  • On completion of the course you’ll receive a prestigious City & Guilds Apprenticeship, which is widely recognised both nationally and internationally.

  • The opportunity to show potential employers that you have excellent training and work experience.

  • Great earning potential - research shows that apprentices earn, on average, over £100,000 more throughout their career than other employees (NAS, 2013).

  • Work ready - a Department for Business, Innovation and Skills survey showed that qualified apprentices score 4% higher on employability than university graduates (ICM Survey, 2013).

  • A dedicated Apprenticeship team at the College will support you throughout your training.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 4 GCSEs grade C or higher, one being English or maths or a related Level 2 vocational course at Merit or higher (if a Pass grade is achieved GCSE grades and/or functional skills results can also be considered).

English and maths assessed at Level 1 or above.

Assessment

Assessments are carried out using a variety of methods, including observation in the workplace, online multiple choice questions, student and witness statements and discussions.

The advantage of these assessments is that they allow you to demonstrate the full range of your knowledge, including practical skills, whether serving food and drinks or dealing with customers’ queries.

Future opportunities

Former students have progressed to management roles and roles reporting to the General Manager.

Some former apprentices have also continued to work while undertaking the Level 4 Apprenticeship in Hospitality Management to help them progress their career prospects.
