GCSE: Physics at Ashby School
This course is known as Triple Science and carries a single award. It is usually studied with GCSE Biology and Chemistry so that, after two years of study, students achieve three GCSE qualifications. Topics covered include heat transfers, using energy, electrical energy, electrical currents, electromagnetic waves, radioactivity, origins of the universe, sound and ultrasound, and the action of forces.
Students can take this course to prepare for advanced level courses such as an A2/AS Level in Science and specialise further in Physics. Some students may need to strengthen their grades by completing a foundation or intermediate vocational qualification. With further training, students may choose a career related to science and physics such as becoming a science teacher, architect, engineer or entering the medical profession. It is also possible to go straight into employment and do further training or part time study with the support of an employer.
