Biology Level 3 GCE AS/A2 at Oak Academy

Course description

With an ever changing world, continuing to study Science in the Sixth form will help to understand and respond to this innovation.
In Science we achieve good exam results, where students have achieved the top grades. With our guidance, and variety of courses on offer, the department will help students to achieve the best possible grades.
The Biology course offers students the opportunity to study a wide range of interesting topics, from the intricate details of cell structure and biochemistry to entire ecosystems. Animals, plants and micro-organisms are all considered in terms of the workings of their cells, evolution, genetics, behaviour and how they can be used to benefit humankind through biotechnology.
Current concerns about human impact on the Earth are examined along with the challenges of maintaining bio-diversity and sustainably managing the environment.
Some students will choose to study the AS level as a standalone qualification whereas others will follow the full A-Level course. Students will develop their practical skills. This element of this course underpins the whole AS/A Level and will be assessed both theoreti-cally and in a practical setting. Students will be awarded a practical endorsement at the end of the course to certificate these skills.
This course will make you a desired candidate for Higher Education courses, at good universities and for jobs in an ever competitive economy.
The range of courses and work opportunities involving biology is vast and includes: veterinary science, medicine, dentistry, physiotherapy, sport science, psychology, pharmacy, biotechnology, zoology, marine biology, plant and animal science, cosmetics, forestry, agriculture, environmental science and many others.
