Sport and Physical Activity at Sandwich Technology School
Why study this subject?
If you love sport and would like to make a career out of it - maybe as a sporting professional, teaching, coaching or working in the sports industry - then this course could be for you. You will develop the ability to work autonomously and effectively whilst studying for a qualification that is relevant to the workplace. This qualification will allow progression into employment as well as to university or further work related qualifications in sport. This course is equivalent to one A level.
There are many units that can make up the extended certofocate. Units 1,2 and 3 are compulsory and a further two units will be studied from the remainder. Please note that units 1 and 3 are assessed with an external exam.
Unit 1 - Body systems and the effects of physical activity (exam)
Unit 2 - Sports coaching and leadership
Unit 3 - Sports organisation and devlopment (exam)

- Health and fitness testing for sport and exercise
- Physical activity for specific groups
- Sports injuries and rehabilitation
- Organisation of sports events
- Practical skills in sport and physical activity
- Sport and exercise psychology
- Sport and exercise sociology
The option topics available to you will depend upon the make-up and strengths of the teaching group.
