English GCSE at St Mark's West Essex Catholic School

Course description

This course is a must for you if you do not gain a C grade in English at GCSE. It should be one of your primary goals before you leave St Mark’s. All Universities and many employers insist on a GCSE C grade in English. Candidates are entered for the Higher tier examination paper. Use of accurate Standard English, grammar and spelling forms part of the assessment.

A pass at grade C or above in GCSE English is considered by most employers and all higher education establishments as an essential qualification. This course is also an ideal foundation for A level courses and will complement communications work done in GNVQ.

This course is intended for students who wish to improve their grades in GCSE English. It is especially appropriate for students who obtained a grade D in their English Language. It is taught three hours a week and demands commitment as it is designed as a one-year course and is not a ‘re-sit’.
