BTEC Level 1 Diploma for IT Users at Bournville College

Course description

If you have an interest in Information Technology, and an ability to communicate your ideas effectively, this programme is designed to give you the opportunity to progress to Intermediate level courses. It is part of a national framework of vocational qualifications that offers you an excellent broad-based introduction to your chosen career.

We have established ourselves as a Computing at School (CAS) hub and have become a Network of Excellence Lead School for Computer Science teaching. By establishing the hub at Bournville College, it helps ensure that we understand first-hand the challenges with computing and aim to provide expert subject and pedagogical knowledge.

Course content

The full award is made up of a variety of units to be completed over one year, including:

  • Using the Internet
  • Using Email
  • Desktop Publishing Software
  • Multimedia Software
  • Presentation Software
  • Spreadsheet Software
  • Website Software plus others to be agreed

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at Grade E-G, all students must have GCSE English Language at Grade E and a maths qualification at Entry 3 or above (or equivalent), an interview will assess your suitability and interest in the subject.

Assessment

All work will be internally assessed through a portfolio of evidence which you will produce throughout the course. Work will also be sampled by the awarding body.

Future opportunities

Successful completion will allow you to move on to an intermediate level qualification, or consider employment in areas involving the use of IT.
