BTEC ICT at Blessed George Napier School
The Edexcel BTEC in ICT combines the more traditional office based ICT learning with industry relevant practical training. This is achieved via a wide selection of units that cover the majority of elements required in an ICT based career. How is the course structured and assessed?
The BTEC in ICT is 100% coursework based. This is a very important aspect of the qualification as it allows students to complete work, have it checked both by their peers and by a teacher and have it returned to them to add to their portfolio. Once the portfolio is complete an examiner from Edexcel will come in and moderate the work.
Units of study
Depending on the Diploma title which the student follows, the course consists of either two or three mandatory units, plus a further four, ten or fifteen units. These units can be selected from a choice of nearly fifty units and is therefore an attractive choice for students with an interest in a particular area of IT.
A minimum of five A* - C grades at GCSE is required for all students wishing to enter the Sixth Form and the student should also have gained an A or B grade in the subjects they wish to take.
