Physics at The South Wolds Academy & Sixth Form

Course description

The AS Physics course aims to develope students' interests in, and enthusiasm for Physics, including developing an interest in further study and careers in the subject. Students learn to appreciate how society makes decisions about scientific issues and how Physics contributes to the success of the economy and society. Two units are covered at AS level: Unit 1, particles, quantum phenomina and electricity. Unit 2, Mechanics, materials and waves. At A2, 2 units are studied: Unit 4, Feilds and further mechanics and Unit 5, Nuclear and thermal physics plus option topic, Astrophysics. Centre assessed practical coursework called ISA's contribute a further unit at AS and A2.

Entry requirements

B or above in Additional Science or Physics GCSE and grade B or above in GCSE Maths.
