Introduction to Early Years Care and Education Cache Level 2 Certificate at Nelson and Colne College

Course description

Our Childcare programmes are designed to provide you with the appropriate education and training to enable you to work with children and their families in a variety of settings and environments within the early year’s sector.

Whilst studying this 1 year programme, you will complete some interesting units designed to deepen your knowledge about how children develop and learn, the stages of development and supporting play.

Course content

  • Supporting physical care and health routines
  • Working in partnership
  • Understanding legislation relating to the care, health and safety of children
  • Supporting children’s play
  • Observation of children
  • Planning to meet the needs of the developing child
  • Supporting Creative play
  • Meeting the nutritional needs of children
  • Supporting positive behaviour

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade D or above including Maths and English or a Level 1 Diploma and Level 1 Maths and English.

Assessment

Assessments will take the form of classroom tasks such as the creation of leaflets, case studies and written responses to research questions and by demonstrating competency in the real work environment.

Future opportunities

Successful completion of this programme can lead on to the Level 3 Early years, Education and Teaching qualification.

Former students are studying at a number of universities including the University of Leeds, Liverpool Hope University, Edge Hill University and Leeds Trinity University, studying for degrees including Childhood Studies, Childhood, Youth and Education and Early Childhood and Education.

They go on to achieve rewarding careers in Childcare and some go on to work as Teachers or Classroom Assistants. Level 2 students can also apply for one of our Apprenticeships with a number of local nurseries.
