Motorcycle Maintenance and Repair Diploma Level 2 at New College Stamford

Course description

This course is designed to provide you with the theoretical and practical experience required to progress towards becoming a qualified mechanic. You will cover all aspects of motorcycle repair including; tyres, brakes, steering and suspension, motorcycle enigines, transmission systems, electronic and chassis systems.You will have the opportunity to meet a variety of guest speakers to develop your knowledge of different career opportunities in the Automotive industry. You can also take part in regional and national competitions such as World Skills Build which has seen the very best in Construction compete for over 45 years.This course is approximately 50% theory and 50% practical.

Course content

You will learn both in the classroom, with theory based discussions, multimedia presentations and worksheets as well as gaining hands on practical experience in our brand new Automotive Skills Centre. You will be expected to undertake independent learning through research tasks with the opportunity to undertake your own project vehicle builds.You will be expected to undertake 1 week work experience in a related industry environment. While we will help you to find the work experience, in some instances it may not be possible to gain this; if this is the case then you will undertake a week of employment related activities.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grades D or above, including English and maths at grades D/3 or above, or a Light Vehicle or Motorcycle DiplomaLevel 1.


You will be assessed through a combination of online phase tests, online theory exams and practical assessements. You will receive ongoing feedback to help you develop your skills and prepare for future assesments.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of this course you can progress on to Light Vehicle or Motorcycle Maintenance and Repair Diploma Level 3, a Motor Vehicle or Motorcycle Maintenance and Repair Apprenticeships or job roles such as an Automotive Technician or a Tyre Fitter.

Further information

You will require a uniform consisting of steel toe capped boots and overalls which can be purchased directly from our website. During your interview you will also sit an online suitability assessment. The result of this, plus your previous academic achievements and maturty will determine the level of course you are offered.
