A Level in Textiles at The Douay Martyrs School

Course description

What is a textile product? A textile product is anything you see around made out of fabric. You can choose an area that interests you and design and make a product related to that area. It gives you the opportunity to be creative and technological at the same time.

Course content

The course is made up of three elements taught in both Year 12 and Year 13. Coursework, Theory and Design.

Skills learned in KS4 are built upon through more in-depth projects. The design process is followed but more independent working is required. Projects include, Fashion, Fabric Design and Interior Design.

Theory areas covered include, Technology in society and market influences, Fibre Fabrics, Environmental issues and Materials Project evaluation.

Entry requirements

Preferably a minimum grade B in Textile Technology.

Future opportunities

Textile Technology opens a lot of doors for you, for example a career in Textile Design, Fashion Design, Retail Management, Retail Buyer, Product Design, Illustrator or Interior Design.
