Sport at Branston Community Academy

Course description

Students are given the opportunity to develop knowledge, skills and understanding of sports core elements - anatomy and physiology, fitness, training, coaching, psychology and nutrition. They are allowed maximum flexibility when selecting specialist units, so that particular interests and career or further study aspirations can be reflected in the choice of units. Units studied are: Anatomy of Sport, Psychology of Sport, Health and Safety, Training and Fitness, and one of the following specialist units: Sports Coaching, Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise, Sports Development.

Entry requirements

PE at GCSE grade C and above is an advantage. 4 A*-C grades at GCSE, including Science. A real interest in sport in all areas. Excellent practical ability in Physical Education is NOT required as the course can be tailored to your skills. If you are good at coursework, it can be all coursework. If good at practical, this can be brought in.

Future opportunities

The BTEC Subsidiary Diploma will give learners a solid and sound foundation in the sport sector, whilst also developing the essential skills required for employment, career progression, or progression to further qualifications and training in sport. It is recognised by all Universities.
