Games Production (Level 3) at Central College Nottingham

Course description

On this course you will learn about every aspect of games design, from concept to production. You will get real experience from industry professionals working with games companies.

Course content

Our industry experienced tutors will support and teach you the practical and technical skills needed to produce your own portfolio of games design, using industry software and resources programs like 3D Studio Max, Maya, Mud box, Unreal Development Kit, Ren Pi, Game Maker and Photoshop. You’ll learn on custom-built games design suites to recreate the industry environment. Along with the benefits of attending lectures and workshops, we have a programme of specialist guest speakers to enhance your learning experience both inside and outside the classroom. There are also regular trips to gaming conventions and festival, including the world-renonwed GameCity.

You will also study Functional Skills in Maths and English. English and Maths are an essential part of your studies and will help you succeed on your course. These subjects will help you develop confidence and are the key employability skills that all employers now look for when recruiting.

Entry requirements

One of the following:

  • 4 GCSEs at grades A*-C including English Language and Maths*
  • A relevant Level 2 qualification including GCSE English Language and Maths* at grade A*-C

*If you do not have both GCSE English Language and Maths at A*-C, we may accept one of them at Grade D in addition to your 4 GCSEs at A*-C. Functional Skills may be accepted instead of GCSE English and/or Maths. Functional Skills Level 1 is equivalent to GCSE Grade D and Level 2 to GCSE Grade C.

Adults who are aged 19+ with relevant industry experience but without the necessary qualifications are welcome to apply.


There is continual assessment throughout the duration of the course through a variety of methods using subject specific projects to grade both practical and academic skills.

Future opportunities

You can continue with further study by doing a Foundation or BA Degree Level courses in Games Technology or Film and Television Production Technology are both available at Confetti Institute of Creative technologies.
