Level 2 Vehicle Fitting Principles at Northampton College

Course description

This course provides students with the opportunity to study both the theory and practical aspects of some of the following: Inspecting, repairing and replacing high performance light vehicle and motorcycle tyres. Carrying out light vehicle front wheel alignment. Inspecting and replacing light vehicle clutches, exhaust components, suspension dampers, vehicle batteries and braking systems. Safe use of oxy-acetylene. Assessing and securing a roadside situation. Students will gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace, agreeing customer vehicle needs and other skills associated with working in a garage.

Course content

This VRQ includes the full range of routine vehicle fitting procedures. It provides essential knowledge and skills for vehicle fitters working on a wide range of vehicles in all types of garages, dealerships and fast fit businesses.

Entry requirements

- Four GCSEs at Grade A*-D including English Language and Maths or Level 1 Functional Skills English and Maths or - IMI Level 1 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair qualification plus GCSEs at Grade A*-D in English Language and Maths or Level 1

Assessment

On-Line and Written Theory Exams and Practical tests

Further information

You will be expected to provide overalls, safety boots or shoes, writing equipment and a folder for your work. At your interview you will be provided with a preferred Kit List that will assist you during your course. This kit will always belong to you and is fully transferable to take with you in to employment.
