IT (Software Development and Coding) Level 2 at Northampton College

Course description

The OCR Level 2 Cambridge Technical Diploma in IT consists of 2 core units plus additional units, taught over 1 year, in tutor led sessions. Attendance is usually 4 days per week. There is a mixture of practical and theoretical work. You will also undertake a GCSE in either Mathematics or English. The core units you will study include: - Communications in the IT Industry - Working in the IT Industry You will also study 5 additional units from: - Computer Graphics - Customising Software - Database Systems - Website Development - Spreadsheet Modelling - Multimedia Design - Developing Programming Solutions - Developing Computer Games - Fundamentals of Computer Applications

Course content

The qualification will be suitable for anyone who wishes to develop skills in software development and programming.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at Grade D or above or a Level 1 qualification in IT.

Assessment

All units are assessed with course work which is graded, and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded.

Future opportunities

After successful completion of this course you may want to consider progressing onto one of the following courses offer at Northampton College:- BTEC Level 3 Diploma in IT (Business)- BTEC Level 3 Diploma in IT (System Support)To progress onto either of the courses above you need to achieve a Merit Grade and GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade C or above.

Further information

Students aged 19 and over on 1st September will be required to pay an exam fee of approximately £130. There will be a trip arranged during your course and we recommend that all students participate. The cost of the trip is approximately £35. All of the above fees are payable at enrolment.
